I came to Riverside straight from school and worked here part time while I was doing additional quaifications at college so that I could get onto the veterinary nursing degree at Usk. That is what I am doing now, I am in my second year of the degree course and I am working at Riverside two days a week. Next year I will be here on a full time placement to complete the practical part of the course.
I always wanted to work with animals but I was worried about the emotional side of the job. It was when I lost my own dog that I decided to give it a go. It can be tough somtimes but the reward is worth it and there is plenty of support from the rest of the team. Being the youngest here I am the baby of the practice and the other nurses have plenty of advice to offer. I love caring for the patients when they are in hospital with us most, but I enjoy chatting with the owners about their pets too. My ambition is to be a gold standard veterinary nurse.
I love dogs best of all, and if I could be an animal I would definitely be my dog, Bucky, he's a whippet who is always happy and full of energy. We always had dogs at home when I was little and we had a rabbit too.
I do a lot of running in my spare time, and in 2019 I will be running the Cardiff half marathon in support of Steetpaws. They are such a great charity, helping people on the streets care for their pets. These animals can be a lifeline for people who are struggling so it's great that there are people out there helping them.
